Kristoffer Wøien

CONDUCTOR

BIOGRAPHY
Kristoffer Wøien is a Norwegian freelance conductor based in Oslo, working across opera, symphonic repertoire and contemporary music, with a strong interest in audience development and operatic projects for children and young audiences.

He has conducted professional orchestras in Norway and internationally, and has served as assistant conductor at the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet on several productions. He has also worked as assistant conductor with the London Philharmonic Orchestra under Edward Gardner. In 2025, he created and conducted a children’s adaptation of Leoš Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen with Più Sinfonietta. The production was very well received and will be presented at various venues in 2026. He is currently developing further operatic adaptations for new audiences.

Kristoffer holds a Master’s degree in orchestral conducting from the Norwegian Academy of Music, where he studied with Professor Ole Kristian Ruud, and was an active member of the national elite programme Dirigentforum from 2022 to 2025. In 2023, he was selected as an exchange student at Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, studying with Professor Christoph Mathias Mueller and Professor Johannes Schlaefli.

In addition to his orchestral and operatic work, he has conducted several of Norway’s professional wind bands and has participated in recordings of Norwegian music for the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK).
